Angle Foldable

On Friday, we began our new unit of study in Everyday Math 6 , which focuses on Geometry.  When checking the results of our CDT and GMADE testing, I noticed that our students were struggling with some basic Geometry skills.  One of the areas was identifying angles.  Since EM suggested reviewing the 4 types of angles, I took it a bit further and had them draw each type, define it, and find examples of each angle in the classroom.  We then stapled the completed foldable into our Math journals.  The activity allowed the students to practice using a protractor, identify angles, and apply their work to everyday objects.

This foldable was inspired by a foldable at Runde's Room .

Unit 5: Geometry: Congruence, Constructions, and Parallel Lines Overview

This week we will begin working on Everyday Math Unit 5: Geometry: Congruence, Constructions, and Parallel Lines.  According to our recent scores on the Classroom Diagnostic Tool (CDT) our students struggle with basic geometry concepts.  Please encourage your child to complete homework assignments nightly to reinforce what is being taught at school, as well as encourage him/her to complete some of the suggested online activities below to increase his/her understanding.

The Parent Letter provides an excellent explanation of what our goals are for Unit 5, as well as provides an answer key for the Study Links.  Please use it to check your child's understanding of the assignments and concepts being taught. Also, Do Anytime Activities reinforce what is being taught in school.   Don't hesitate to contact me at ldryzal@gjsd.net with any concerns.

Homework and Classwork Managment for Absent Students

In the front of the classroom, I have two file crates labeled with Classwork and Math Homework Stars.  Inside the crates are hanging files labeled with the days of the week.  If a student is absent, he can find the work his missed inside the files.  It makes managing work easier for me, and easier for students who return after illness.

Creative Teaching Press Win

At the beginning of the school year, I was blessed to win 75 dollars to spend on materials for my classroom from Creative Teaching Press.   I am so thankful for the prize!  My classroom theme is Dots on Black, so I ordered a variety of items to help brighten up our classroom.  These photos are from my phone, so they aren't the best.
The Dots on Black Border around my Bulletin Board

Our Math Lesson State Standards and Anchors are displayed on Poppin' Patterns Charts

Dots on Black letters are used to title the Math Word Wall Area, along with coordinating border

Poppin' Patterns 6" Dot Cutouts display our Cooperative Learning Standards for all to see and refer to during class time

Poppin' Patterns Jumbo Dots are hung from the ceiling to display numbers for our cooperative learning teams.  I also have Poppin' Patterns Stars hanging as well.
