As part of our Holiday Traditions Around the World Unit, we made Gingerbread Houses after learning about Germany.  The houses were constructed of graham crackers and a variety of items, generously donated by student's families.

Math and More

In honor of Veteran's Day, we brainstormed words about soldiers and veterans.  The we wrote letters to soldiers thanking them for their service.

Sgt. Spanko visited first grade and shared his experiences as a soldier.

In Math, we are learning to compare two digit numbers.  Today the students played a game where they rolled dice to create two digit number and then compared their number to their partners's number.

On Monday, students compared two digit numbers using ten frames.

Donors Choose--Please help!

Every day in our classroom is spent encouraging my learners to become readers, writers and mathematicians. The best teachers give their students roots and wings: roots to create a foundation, and wings to fly off and practice what has been taught them.   This is why I chose to create a request through the Donors Choose website.  You can visit my project here:  http://www.donorschoose.org/mrsdryzal
I am requesting funding for a LCD projector to use in our classroom.  Through the use of a LCD projector, my students will be able to participate in a variety of on-line interactive activities that are part of our Success for All Reading Roots program. Activities include sound it out, stretch and read, vocabulary, shared reading of the stories and more. It will enable me to reach students with
a variety of learning styles.

We will also be able to use the projector to take virtual field trips in Social Studies and Science classes, as well as do a variety of interactive Math lessons. Donations to this project will improve my classroom by adding much needed technology, enable me to reach students with a variety of learning skills, and allow my students access to technology on a new level.

Any donation, large or small will help us reach the goal of a LCD projector in our classroom!  Until October 16th, all donations will be matched dollar for dollar! Please use the promo code SPARK for the funds to be matched.   Thank you in advance for your consideration!
Thank you for stopping by!

Miss Taylor--Student Teacher

Today, Miss Taylor completed her first student teaching placement in our classroom.  She has been with us since the first day of school, and her absence will be noticed.

We had a small, going away party for her today.  The children made a fingerprint tree for her.  (That's why their pointer fingers were green! ;0)

We also gave her a card and a few other items.

Miss Taylor and Class

We wish you all the best!

Thank you to all of the families who visited our classroom for Open House.  It was wonderful to meet everyone!  The photo above shows our poster of tips for parents.

Each child received a magnet to hang their work with, along with a scavenger hunt sheet, a mint and a few helpful parent papers.
