Welcome to Mrs. Dryzal's First Grade at Johnstown Elementary

Our Hallway Display Area
Welcome Families and Friends!

Welcome to First Grade!  I am looking forward to an exciting, productive, and rewarding year with your child.  This year begins my 25th year of teaching.  Most of my years have been spent teaching first grade.  I grew up in Johnstown and am a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.  I am married with two children, a ninth grader and a college junior, who keep me busy outside of the school day.

We will be learning many interesting things in First Grade.  The children will learn to read and write and to use reading and writing to share their learning with their peers.  All children will write every day.  Writing will be sent home with your child, as well as keep in a portfolio that will be sent home at the end of the year.  It's a fantastic way to see the growth your child made throughout the school year.

Each child is also expected to complete homework each night.  Homework consists of 20 minutes of reading from the current Reading Roots story.  That homework will begin the second week of school.  The children will also have Math homework on a regular basis.

Your child will be bringing home a D.O.T. (Daily Organizational Tool)Binder.  The binder is to be taken home each afternoon and returned the following morning. Each Friday, I will fill out the Weekly Behavior Chart inside the D.O.T. Binder.  Please discuss the chart with your child, initial it, and return it with your child on Monday.

I would also like to request that each student bring in one box of tissues for classroom use.  It would be greatly appreciated.  Our classroom is always in need of other supplies, as well.  If you are interested in donating other items, please contact me.  Our wish list is available online at http://mrsdryzal.blogspot.com by searching wish list on the search bar.

I am looking forward to being a partner in education with you and your child.  Together we can make the 2019-2020 school year a successful and rewarding year.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have during the school year.  The best ways to reach me are by writing a note in the D.O.T. Binder  or via email at ldryzal@gjsd.net.   You may also leave a message with the school secretary at any time and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Our classroom has a blog.  You can visit it to read about class news, upcoming events, announcements, view important web links, view photos of our classroom, see our work ,find parent resources and much more.  The address is http://mrsdryzal.blogspot.com

You can also sign up for Remind.  Remind is a free service that lets me send quick messages via text, push notifications, or email to everyone involved with the class. We’ll be able to stay in touch without revealing our personal contact information. Signing up for my messages on Remind is easy.   Text my class code @dryzal to 81010 or download the Remind App and add @dryzal as our class code when prompted.

                                                          Sincerely,

                                                          Lisa M. Dryzal
