What's happening in Room 23 ?

My Donors Choose Project was fully funded!  I was able to purchase the Epson Projector, pictured above, for use in our classroom.  We use it primarily for Reading Roots Interactive activities, but I have used it in our other subject areas, as well.

This is the projector in use during Reading Roots class.

In Reading Roots, we have been reading stories about China.  On our Adventures in Writing day, I made Hot Dog Stir Fry.  As we cooked the stir fry in the electric wok, the students wrote the steps to making stir fry.  It's quite easy to make and the students really enjoyed trying something new.

In Math, we are working on Fact Families.  The children really enjoyed using playing cards to create fact families during class on Friday.  You can find the printable here and use cards at home to practice with your child.  We used cards 2-9 to practice in class.

Thank you for stopping by!

Christmas in First Grade

Snowflake the Elf spent all of December with us.  In the photo above, she built a tree using cubes.

Our Hallway Decor

We visited several countries during our Christmas Around the World Unit.  The photo on the left shows a cracker from England, and the photo on the right shows a poinsettia from Mexico.

Santa visited West Side on December 18th and brought us all a t-shirt!

Thank you P.I.E.!

We are looking forward to January!

Gingerbread Houses

As part of our Holiday Traditions Around the World Unit, we made Gingerbread Houses after learning about Germany.  The houses were constructed of graham crackers and a variety of items, generously donated by student's families.

I think they came out beautifully!
