Welcome to First Grade at West Side Elementary!  I am looking forward to being your child's teacher this school year!  Below are a few reminders for the week ahead.

~There is a 1-hour early dismissal on Thursday, August 28th.
 
~School will be closed August 29th through September 1st.  Classes resume on September 2nd.
 
~Please remember to complete and return all 3 emergency cards by Thursday.
 
~Don't forget to check the D.O.T. binder daily!

W is for Water

 
Today was Water Fun Day!  I am thankful the sun was out and the rain stayed away!  We played Duck, Duck, Splash and the kids loved it. 

 

 
Then we had Fill the Bucket Relays.




 
We played toss the sponge, then fill the bucket with the water gun. 

 

 
We had a "splashing" good time!

What's New in Room 23

 
In Science, we learned about the Water Cycle and made water cycle bracelets, as well as learned a cute song about the water cycle.
 

 
In Language Arts, we are working on How-To writing.  These are pictures of our How to Blow A Bubble Writing.  We also wrote about how to be a pirate and are now working on how to make lemonade.  We will drink some lemonade on Tuesday!



 
The A to Z Countdown continues!  Above are pictures of the students who wore their favorite t-shirt on T is for T-shirt day. 


 
On Friday, WSE held it's annual talent show.  Above our some of our first graders dancing and singing with Elmo, aka Mrs. Dugan.  The lesson was "Don't Give Up!"

Science--All About Soil

 
In Science, we have been learning about the kinds of soils.  We investigated clay, loam and sand.
 
 
Some students feeling the loam to determine it's texture and particle sizes. 


 
Science seems to be the class's favorite class of the day!
