Beginning of the Year Projects

We start our  year with the Getting Along Together program to build a classroom family and learn the expectations of our school community.  After reading A Rainbow of Friends by P.K. Hallinan we  created a rainbow using cut outs of our hands.

We also read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and wrote about how we were feeling on the first day of school.  We even made our own Chester Raccoons!

Another story we read about classroom rules and expectations was David Goes to School  by David Shannon.  We wrote and drew a picture of what David should do in school, as well ad did a guided drawing of the character David to practice using our active listening skills.

I have linked the titles of each book to a purchase source in case you'd like to add them to your
library at home.  I do not earn anything from your purchase.

Thank you for stopping by!

Poem for Parents

Partnership

They bring their child to me

And hope I'll come to know

How much their offspring means to them,

Their trust in me bestowed.

They bring their child to me

With love and hope and pride,

Looking for a helping hand,

A teacher who will guide.

They bring their child to me,

And our partnership is clear:

To nurture and allow to bloom

A life we both hold dear.

They bring their child to me,

A step toward letting go

And trusting in our special plan

To help the child grow.

Classroom Theme....DOTS!

As most people know, I love to have a warm, welcoming, bright classroom for my students. For sixth grade, I'm going with at Primary Dots theme. I am going to use letters, borders and accessories using this pattern from Creative Teaching Press called Dots on Black.

These sheers also come in black, so I'm thinking about buying 2 pairs to use on my shelving units to "disguise" what is behind them. I love that they are light and have dots on them. It should help the units disappear into the background while adding some texture to the space.

School starts in less than a month for teachers!
